Another evening of painting and I'm happy with the big guy. I think he will make an impressive/intimidating opponent for my elves!
Tomorrow I just need to varnish the bugger, and then he'll be ready for basing on Friday.

Work In Progress - Giant
I decided my Orc army for This One's Split (http://thisonesplit.blogspot.com) needs a few big dudes. I liked the Games Workshop Lord of the Rings Isengard troll, so went for that figure. It will do quite nicely as a giant in 15mm scale. I've put a 15mm demonworld orc next to him for size comparison.
Started today and I did the base colours and wash, and a first highlight of the metal and the skin. Overall I like the way the figure is starting to work out. Need to pay close attention to keeping it stylistically close enough to the 15mm army though.
Planning to have at least one of those finished for the demo at Action 2009, Rheindahlen.

Fantasy miniatures (demonworld)
Had a bit more fun with my light tent yesterday evening, taking shots of various miniatures in my plains elves and orcs armies for the fantasyw argames set I'm working on (http://thisonesplit.blogspot.com). I'm pretty pleased with the short focus here, really helps seperate the figures from the unit deployed behind them, while still making it feel like they are on some battlefield.
Oh, these are 15mm demonworld miniatures. Unfortunately out of production, but then again I still have about 600 ready to paint ;)

15mm Plains Elves cavalry charge
I took a whole bunch of photos during playtests of a new fantasy wargames rule set that Dick and myself are working on.
Unfortunately the vast majority was taken from hand and had moved too much to be of any use, and it didn't help that I had the wrong white balance loaded.
I discovered this right at the end, which meant that at least the glorious charge of my plains elves heavy cavalry got captured on screen. This was after the orcs managed to smash their way into the light infantry rangers and routed a good portion of them. The cavalry reserve saw a bunch of disordered orcs, charged in and saw them off:
To promptly follow up with a brilliantly executed handbrake turn, into the flank of the main body of orc infantry. Somehow they weren't too pleased with it.
More news on the rule set to follow on http://thisonesplit.blogspot.com/

Painting Again
Here's the method I use for painting these miniatures: Orcs Quick and Dirty Style
Just need to finish the bases and they'll be ready to go. Which leaves me with only, say, 400 orc infantry left to paint ;)
